Why?
This site was born out of a long running frustration. A few years ago I was chair of our local centennial celebration. Having lived in Boulder, Colorado for a while, I fondly remembered the street performers on the downtown mall and wished to find some similar local talent to enhance our centennial celebration. We got a few clowns to come which was great fun, but where were all the mimes, caricature artists, puppeteers and fire eaters in Iowa?
I finally found some of the mimes, caricature artists and puppeteers and now have links to their sites here. I am still looking for the fire eaters, so if you can help me out there please do.
Also, I've discovered that people love to watch an artist at work (play?). What was once a hobby of making kaleidoscopes has gotten out of hand on me. Through pure dumb luck I've discovered people like watching me turn wood and, wonder of wonders, also like to buy kaleidoscopes when they're here! Hopefully, with the help of this site, other Iowa artists will open their studios to the world and experience the same joys as I do.
